REMARKABLE
About the *project.*
REMARKABLE aims to make IoT and ML systems more accessible, energy-efficient, and secure in rural areas. It deploys IoT sensors connected through a wide-area network, feeding data to an AI decision-support tool that uses decentralized federated learning methods to generate insights.
The project's vision centers on environmental monitoring and conservation in deep rural areas, spanning applications such as wildlife management, rural tourism, and pollution control.
REMARKABLE fosters collaboration between research groups from both EU and non-EU countries through networking activities, secondments, and PhD programs. Knowledge transfer is promoted via student exchange programs, industrial PhD training, and internships, with an inaugural hybrid partner meeting already held at CIoT'2023, bringing together teams from Portugal, Serbia, Spain, and South Africa.
Key *objectives.*
Secure and Trustworthy IoT
Develop a secure, robust IoT platform for rural environments, including lightweight ML methods for security and anomaly detection.
Improved Device Localization
Enhance device localization beyond GPS using sensors and wireless signals from aerial platforms, while safeguarding against potential attacks.
Frugal ML-Based Algorithms
Design resource-light ML algorithms tailored to rural IoT platforms and customized for different use cases, minimizing computational and energy demands.
Digital Twin Models for Rural IoT
Create digital twin models of rural IoT devices to simulate system representations, reducing deployment costs and enabling exploration of new use cases.
Collaboration and Knowledge Exchange
Build long-term research collaborations between EU and non-EU partners through networking activities, secondments, PhD programs, and industrial training.
Beyond Vision's *role*.
Beyond Vision contributes its aerial platform and drone expertise to REMARKABLE's device localization and rural monitoring objectives, supporting the use of sensors and wireless signals from aerial platforms to extend positioning beyond GPS.
This work feeds directly into the project's environmental and economic impact goals, from wildlife and livestock monitoring to advancing drone applications within the wider sensor and data-analytics ecosystem.
