AfarEdge
About the *project.*
The agricultural sector sits at the top of the AFarEdge value chain, with many practical needs that call for better situational awareness of soil or plant health, machinery condition, or individual animal well-being in a flock of hundreds.
The ECS industry has released numerous technological innovations across many fields. Although automotive and industrial automation segments have been their main business drivers, many outcomes also benefit agricultural scenarios.
This project introduces an interactive, iterative development process that brings farmers and the ECS community together.
Key *objectives.*
Integrated Architectural Approach
Rather than focusing on individual technologies (e.g., sensors), AFarEdge aims to design an architecture for distributed agricultural data handling, from perception and processing to informative views for the farmer.
Development Guided by Demonstrations and Farmer Collaboration
Demonstrations and farmer collaboration initiate and guide the development process, starting with architecture specification, which feeds ECS and edge SW development as well as the development of decision-support functionality.
